Iron man 1 post credit scene11/13/2022 ![]() ![]() A long-running thread in the original comics is the public's mistrust of the hero, skewed by Jameson's polemics against him. This could be a nice bit of course correction on Sony's part, after Spider-Man's role in the wider MCU has positioned him as a beloved figure. Jonah Jameson – framing Spider-Man for a massacre. ![]() In the aftermath of the film's final battle, doctored video is leaked – to the Daily Bugle, no less, with a very welcome actor playing the notorious J. The biggest change for Spider-Man personally comes in the first of Far From Home's credits stingers. ![]() This is quite a canny detail on the part of writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, laying the groundwork for both character arcs to come and a trove of undefined but tantalising Stark secrets to be mined by future films. The advanced tech he left behind is used in Far From Home as a major plot point, while an AI Stark leaves to Peter called EDITH – Even Dead, I'm The Hero – establishes a potential treasure trove of contingency plans left to be discovered. It's a responsibility Spider-Man may be destined for himself, even if he's not ready yet – which makes us think a good chunk of Marvel's 'Phase Four' may deal with establishing a true successor, with a similar stature to Stark in the films' continuity.Įven with a specific analogue for Iron Man to be confirmed, Stark himself will continue to cast a shadow. The throughline of Far From Home's narrative is the question of who is going to be the new Iron Man. ![]() Tony Stark isn't goneĮxpect to see Tony Stark continue to play a major role in the MCU in future, even if Robert Downey Jr. or something similar as Fury re-establishes himself as the premier power broker of the universe. Partly this is down to him being 'blipped' – he complains of other people now knowing secrets he once held.īut for a minor wrinkle – which we'll get to shortly – expect the core MCU to spend some time re-building its shadow structure in its next few films, re-forming S.H.I.E.L.D. He still has influence and access though, working with Europol and, by extension, other government agencies, but doesn't appear to have quite the same clout he used to. At one point, Fury also laments that he's "the guy who used to know everything", but is now playing catch up. Fury and Hill appear to be working largely off-grid, possibly as an authorised black ops unit. Post-blip, we're left with a world closer to our own, with international agencies collaborating and butting heads in equal measure. While it's overly convenient and never mentioned that all of Peter's supporting cast happened to blip out along with him – and we only get one new character, (Remy Hii as classmate Brad Davis) who was escaped the blip and aged up to the rest of the cast's age in their absence – Aunt May (Marissa Tomei) is working for a charity helping those left homeless upon their return, and Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) appears to still have a passport with his original birthdate on, allowing him to get alcohol underage. We learn that the event is referred to as "The Blip", and see hints that it's been a logistical nightmare. For the most part, this works – to compare, was 2014 that different to 2019 in terms of fashion, attitudes, or daily life? – but it does reveal the first ramifications of half the world's population disappearing for half a decade, then returning, unaged, as a result of Thanos and Hulk's respective Infinity Stone-powered finger-snaps Far From Home doesn't explore the date specifically, preferring to exist in a sort of nonspecific timeframe. Time leaves us confusedĪfter the events of Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking place in 2023. Be warned: there are major spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home ahead. ![]()
